Service Unit Celebrations

Service units are encouraged to plan celebrations to recognize girls and adults in their areas. These celebrations support active and continued participation in Girl Scouting. Service unit celebrations can be a great way to meet potential Girl Scout adult volunteers and interact with families. They can also excite and educate girls and adults about other Girl Scout opportunities, such as and awards, traditions and leadership opportunities.

The Service Unit Celebration Planning Resource will take you through setting up a planning team, a timeline with checklist resource, a budgeting worksheet and many other resources.

Every celebration should include recognizing the efforts of your volunteers. Including adult recognitions as part of your celebration will give Girl Scout volunteers the recognition they deserve for their achievements and dedication to youth. It comes complete with ideas of who to recognize and even a sample script.

No celebration would be complete without recognizing girls who have earned a High Award. Everyone will enjoy seeing the impact girls have on their community through their Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. Your celebration will shine when girls are included!

In the Service Unit Celebration Planning Resource, you’ll find ideas about other reasons to celebrate your girls and volunteers, too. Be creative and think about all of the achievements of individuals in your service unit. You may want to even recognize girls who have achieved excellence in the Girl Scout Cookie Sale Program by selling over 500 packages of cookies.

It’s also a great tradition to include a flag ceremony in your celebration. This resource includes the guidelines, terms, handling instructions and commands.
